Is it acceptable to use store bought golden raisins with a preservative in them to make hot pepper wine? Our local wine supply shop told us the preservative will kill our yeast. We are getting ready to make our first wine and any help would be very nice and greatly appreciated.

some wines that i make end up with a "homemade" taste that i attribute to fermentation. but my wine is always racked at least three times and it is aged at least a year before i open it. i dont know what to do to make it tatse more like a commercial wine, can anyone help me?
